Episode Recap_First Airdate 011911

First case from today's episode:
Plaintiff:  Courtney Bivens
Defendant:  Marseille Carroll

This is good one...Ms Bivens loaned Mr Carroll a grand to buy a 1992 Saab so that "he could take her out sometime".  Mr Carroll was apparently "off-again" with his on-again, off-again baby mama at the time.  (How awkward must Ms Baby Mama (they are on-again) feel sitting on the defendant's side of the courtroom listening to how this Playa conned some random hook-up out of money for a car.  I don't understand why she would subject herself to this humilation.)

So when Ms Bivens asks the defendant when he will take her on a date, he says he is low on funds because he is saving for a car.  So Ms Bivens, the rich person that she apparently is, promises him money for a car when she gets her tax return.  Judge Judy asks what she does for a living and she states that she is a part-time hair stylist (she also discloses that she has 2 kids).   THEN, she states that she indeed was way behind on bills and filed for bankruptcy for debts to the tune of $30,000, but yet can find a grand to throw Mr Carroll's way, to win his love, I am guessing.  (Although, he admitted that he didn't even have a clue what she did for a living.)

Verdict:  Judge Judy asks her if she claimed the defendant's loan on her bankruptcy (since that would be considered an asset) and Brainiac Bivens repeatedly states that she didn't know she had to.  JJ isn't hearing any of that though and does something absolutely awesome.  Much to Ms Bivens dismay, she rules that Mr Carroll write out a check for $1000 to one of the plaintiff's creditors that she claimed on her bankruptcy. Perfect!

I have to say that the plaintiff in this case irritates me for a few reasons.
  1. She made 2 babies and can't support them, and where are the fathers?
  2. The plaintiff claims bankruptcy for $30,000 in debt, but gives some guy who doesn't even know what she does for a living $1000 to buy a car.
  3. She receives a tax refund of close to $7000 and she spent the majority of it on her bankruptcy lawyer.
  4. In her closing interview, she still feels taken advantage of, thus taking NO responsibility for her horrific judgment.
